Polytropic Stepio heat pump
The Stepio is THE special full inverter spa heat pump designed by the French brand Polytropic. It has a particularly low noise level (29 dB(A) at 10 m).
With the PolySmart Control system, the Stepio consumes less electricity by automatically adapting to the needs of your spa according to the water temperature and the ambient temperature. Its components (compressor and fans) will adjust their operating intensity to deliver only the power needed to heat the water.
Three modes are available:
- Boost mode, which uses 85% to 100% of the power to ensure a rapid rise in temperature.
- Smart mode, which automatically adjusts the power according to the water temperature in order to ensure a low sound level and high COP.
- Eco mode: when the pool is almost at the desired temperature, this mode favours energy saving while further lowering the noise level.
The Low temperature system from Polytropic finally makes it possible to protect the machine below 0°C with a system for preheating the elements to avoid excessively energy-intensive cold starts.
The Stepio also includes PolyConnect Inside, a Wifi module that allows a smartphone to control the pump remotely from the PolyConnect 2.0 Inside application. In addition, you benefit from remote maintenance and, if necessary, Stepio diagnostics by Polytropic technicians.
Available as an option, a patented composite step specifically designed for the Stepio helps you conceal the unit in your spa, while still allowing the pump's airflow to pass through. As an additional bonus, the heat pump is protected from the elements.
Stepio is recommended for all types of climates up to -10°C. The pump is ideal if you are looking for a heat pump that you want to use all year round. Whereas this full inverter model is a little more expensive than a standard heat pump, it enables the user to save money in the long term: its lifespan is extended because it does not generate peaks in intensity and its components do not run at full speed. Thus, the wear of the parts is slower and the heat pump has greater longevity.
If you're looking for a heat pump for seasonal use (from spring to autumn), we recommend the Polytropic Urban.

Connections
The Stepio comes with two connection fittings for 1.5" and 50 mm hoses and a black plastic end cap for 16mm hoses (for condensates). Silent blocks are also included.
For use with all spas, the Stepio is equipped with a smart electronic monitor – completely independent of your control system and spa keypad – which allows you to manage your heating preferences.
The heat pump must be installed on the circulation pump circuit with a bypass kit (sold separately) with 3 valves to adjust the flow of water passing through the Stepio, as well as for maintenance purposes.
The feet are easily adjustable to ensure the heat pump is level. A remote display kit (to be purchased separately) also gives you the option of moving the control screen to a more convenient location, such as the machine room or home.
Installation
Two options are possible, depending on your use:
- The heat pump is completely independent of the electrical installation of your spa: set the desired temperature on the heat pump and start your spa circulation pump by setting it for 24 hours. Set your spa to "Eco" or "Rest" mode with the temperature set to the lowest setting. Your spa's heater will then only be activated if the water temperature is too low (e.g. when filling until the water has reached the temperature set on the keypad).
- The heat pump is associated with your standard spa heater:
If your spa is equipped with a Balboa system, the relay kit allows you to use the heater power to activate the heat pump and choose whether or not to operate the Urban 20 simultaneously with your spa's standard electric heater. Simply unplug your standard heater if you only want to use the heat pump.
If your spa is equipped with a Gecko Y series system, the in.grid device, the process is the same. The heater can be deactivated directly from your keyboard if you only want to use the heat pump.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about installing your heat pump.
